Docs/Communication/Linking a WhatsApp line by QR code

Linking a WhatsApp line by QR code

Pair a phone number with Oris Work by scanning a QR code from the WhatsApp app.

What it is

Pairing works like adding WhatsApp Web: you scan a QR code from the phone that owns the number, and that number becomes a line in your WhatsApp inbox. Only workspace admins can pair a line.

Before you start

  • Have the phone with the WhatsApp account you want to pair in your hand and connected to the internet.
  • Sign in to Oris Work as an admin.
  • Remember the risk shown on the page: this uses WhatsApp's unofficial web protocol and a paired number can be restricted by WhatsApp.

Steps

  • Go to Admin → WhatsApp.
  • Click "+ Add number" (or "+ Add first number" if this is your first).
  • Type a Label, for example Sales or Support, then click Continue.
  • The new line shows "Scan to pair" with a QR code. If it says "Generating QR code…", wait a moment.
  • On the phone, open WhatsApp → Settings → Linked Devices → Link a Device, then scan the code on screen.
  • The badge changes to Connected and shows the display name and phone number.

Keep the page open

The QR code refreshes on its own roughly every 20 seconds and the page checks the status every few seconds while pairing. Keep the page open until the badge says Connected.

Line states

  • Not connected: the line exists but is not running. Use Reconnect.
  • Connecting…: starting up.
  • Scan to pair: waiting for you to scan the QR code.
  • Connected: working.
  • Logged out: WhatsApp ended the link. You will need to scan a new QR code.

Disconnecting a line

Click Disconnect on a line and confirm. This logs out the paired number, and you must scan a new QR code to reconnect it. Use it when a phone is retired or the number changes hands.

Common problems

  • The QR code never appears: reload the page and try again, or Disconnect and add the number again.
  • The code stops working: it rotates quickly, so scan the one currently on screen.
  • Add number does nothing or shows an error: only admins can pair lines.
