Compare budgeted hours with hours actually logged on each engagement, and get alerted before you overrun.
The Time budgets report compares the hours you budgeted for each engagement with the hours your team has logged against it. Use it to spot work that is about to overrun while there is still time to act. Open it from Practice → Reports → Time budgets. It needs the Practice module to be switched on.
Three summary cards show how many engagements have a budget, how many are close to budget, and how many are over budget. The table lists each engagement with its Service, Status, Preparer, Budget, Logged and Used percentage. Click an engagement title to open it. Only engagements that have a budget and are not cancelled appear.
Logged hours are every minute recorded on the engagement's tasks, whether billable or not, because a budget measures effort. Time entered in the Timesheet, the task timer and manual logs all count.
When logged time first reaches 80% of the budget, and again when it reaches 100%, the engagement's preparer and reviewer each get one in-app notification. Each threshold alerts only once per engagement. Alerts are internal and nothing is sent to clients. To switch them off, go to Compliance → Reminder settings (Practice settings), find Time budgets, untick the alert option and click 'Save settings'.
