Tax Module (ThynkTax)

Prepare and track client returns in ThynkTax, opened inside Oris Work.

What it is

ThynkTax is the tax module for preparing and tracking income-tax, GST, TDS and ROC returns. It opens inside Oris Work and signs you in automatically. It appears in the sidebar as Tax and on each client page as the Tax tab.

Link a client

  • Open the client's page and choose the Tax tab.
  • An admin enters the client's PAN (ThynkTax identifies clients by PAN) and clicks 'Turn on tax (ThynkTax)'. The button stays disabled until the PAN has a valid format.
  • Only the PAN, name and entity type are shared with ThynkTax.
  • If tax was turned off earlier, the button reads 'Turn tax back on' and no PAN is needed.

What you see on the client Tax tab

A table of the client's returns shows Return, Period, Status, Filed date and Acknowledgement, with statuses such as Draft, Validated, In review, Approved, Filing, Filed and Acknowledged. Up to 12 returns are listed. Below it, ThynkTax opens on that client so you can compute, prepare and track returns. If there are none, you will see 'No returns yet — start one in ThynkTax below.'

Turn it off

An admin can click 'Turn off tax'. The tab stops showing the client's ThynkTax workspace. Nothing in ThynkTax is deleted, and turning it back on picks up where you left off.

Who can open it

By default every role can open Tax; turning it on or off for a client is admin-only. Members on a custom role need the 'Tax (ThynkTax)' read permission under Settings → Roles → Client modules. A viewer is read-only inside the module.

If the module is not enabled

If Tax is not on for your organisation it is not shown in the sidebar, and opening the page shows 'ThynkTax isn't switched on for your workspace'. An admin can add a note and click 'Request ThynkTax'. Repeated requests are recognised, and a lapsed subscription is explained with a reminder that your data is kept.

Common problems

  • The turn-on button is disabled: the PAN must be ten characters in the standard format, for example ABCDE1234F.
  • 'ThynkTax is not set up for this client yet': an admin must turn tax on for that client.
  • 'Your role does not include access to this module': ask an admin to review your role.
  • 'Failed to load ThynkTax': click Retry; if it persists, contact support.
